There are few things that engage as much on social media as animals – and perhaps especially dogs. The internet is full of pictures and videos of cute dogs, and it is not uncommon for comedians to want to joke a bit about just that.
Among others, comedian Morten Ramm (42) has chosen to do so, when he published a picture of celebrity stylist Jan Thomas (54) and his girlfriend Harlem Alexander on Monday this week. On the latter’s stomach, the dog Tyr hangs in a sling.

– Attack
In the comments field, there are in fact comments such as “animal cruelty”, “poor dog” and “dumbest thing I have seen” about the baby carrier.
The main characters themselves have also reacted. In a comment to the photo, the 54-year-old writes that Tyr, who is still a puppy, both walks, plays and runs most of the time, but that he gets tired on longer trips.
“I love you Morten, but some of the naughty comments from your followers. Now people need to sharpen up! ” he writes further.
To Se og Hør, he says that the problem does not really lie in Ramm’s post, but that he reacts strongly to the comments that have come. One in particular stands out.
– Suddenly I was 65 years old
– There were some who attacked Harlem’s orientation. We have been advised to report the case by the police. We’re fine, but what about the 13-year-old boy and the 14-year-old girl who are gay, lesbian, or trans? We adults have to take this seriously.

– Hair travelers
The 54-year-old has had a dog most of his life. There is no doubt that Tyr gets enough activity with his legs on the ground. Jan recites a lot. The little dog is in the park with other dogs at nine o’clock, socializes at work with people during working hours, and plays outside the library at Solli plass in Oslo at seven every night.
Reveals new job
– The challenge with this is not what Morten has done. Those are the comments. And that says a bit about where we are in society today, that was what was shocking to me. The fact that some may think that two men like us at all think in the lanes that we carry Tyr in a Baby Bear all the time. That alone is completely hair-raising.
The 54-year-old points out that he does not feel that the comedian is a malicious guy, and says that Morten probably did not understand the consequences in advance.

– That’s what’s hair-raising. What is shocking and sad is this misery and hatred of people, who do not know us at all, comes from such a type of image. But it comes with consequences, hate speech is a criminal act, so we probably follow the advice and report it.

– I do not think it is nice to be ridiculed, I just think it is unpleasant. Had I done something about it, it would have been fine, but I have not asked for it.
Harlem also says that some comments went awry, which culminated in a very disgusting experience.
New dog after the painful loss
– There was a comment that went on that I was a “nasty gay” and that I should never have had a dog, and then I think it goes a little too far.
– It is a sling for dogs, so it is made for just that. It’s not like he’s sitting there for hours, it’s only if we go far – then he only needs five minutes. I would never have done anything to Tyr if it had hurt him, that’s my child. That’s why no one should fuck with him.

– Harlem and I are two tough guys, and almost everything I wanted to rise above because I have too much to do to care about what people might think and feel about me, but this is not about me. It is about my community that has been exposed to this for far too many years, so it is our duty to do something about it, Jan adds.

Opponent of bearing
FirstVet’s chief veterinarian, Trude Mostue, speaks on a general basis in this case. However, she points out that it is very rarely necessary to carry their dogs – unless there is a medical reason behind it.

– I am opposed to walking and carrying a dog. There are very many with small dogs who like to carry them, but it can quickly go wrong when you are out because then you end up with a dog that can quickly become nervous and antisocial, as well as difficult to handle. They are also deprived of the opportunity to experience what dogs naturally like to do, sniff, smell and exercise normal behavior in encounters with other dogs and people, Mostue explains to Se og Hør.
She further explains that it does not hurt the dog to carry it in this way, but that it is not necessary.

– There are many who have a misconception that small dogs can not stand long walks and are automatically vulnerable to other dogs. But you often do your dogs a disservice if you pick them up and carry them all the time. It will limit their experiences as dogs and learning.
– Gets a twisted picture of the world
According to Mostue, dogs must live a life on the ground. She says that even small dogs have great pleasure in smelling and being a dog.
– They have as good a sense of smell as a larger dog, and for them to walk at ground level is a fantastic experience. Then they get to see the world from their perspective. If they experience the world from the owner’s arms, they get a false idea of what the world is like as a dog, she believes.
– It will be empty without him
The vet also says that if you go for longer walks with your dog, for example over the mountain, there may of course be times when you choose to carry it. But basically she believes that even small dogs are robust and can withstand more than many people think.
Veterinarian Mostue concludes that this way of carrying a dog is unnatural, inhibiting and can be frightening for a dog.
– I can probably dare to say that this is a good example of acquiring dogs human characteristics and needs. If you are going to carry a dog, there are better alternatives such as backpacks or simply dog bags, she believes.
