Wojciech Nawrocki informed the media of Jan Nowicki’s death from Kowal city. As we read: “The late Jan Nowicki died. Tonight our compatriot Jan Nowicki, great actor, writer, honorary citizen of the city of the blacksmith passed away suddenly at the age of 83”.
Nowicki came from Kowal, a city in Kuyavia, of which he was an honorary citizen. He lived in Krzewent near his hometown.
Jan Nowicki created the most characteristic roles in the films ‘Wielki Szu’, ‘Sanatorium pod Klepsydrą’, ‘Pan Wołodyjowski’ and ‘Sztos’. For over 30 years he was an actor at the Stary Theater in Krakow, where he made his debut playing dozens of roles. His roles as Stawrogin in Possessed or Arthur in Tango went down in the history of Polish theater.
Jan Nowicki, after a few years absence, returned in 2008 with a role in Jacek Bławut’s ‘Not Evening Yet’. In recent years he played in the films “Sztos 2” and “Show, baby, what’s inside.” He has also appeared in several series, such as “Magda M.” or “Appetite for love”.
He was the author of several books, including “My Dog Thoughts” or “Meetings in Paradise”.
He was born on November 5, 1939 in Kowal. He graduated from the Kraków State Higher Theater School. He also lectured there and served as vice principal of the drama department from 1973-74.
He died at the age of 83.
