Football player Jan Kuchta’s loan to Sparta from Lokomotiv Moscow turned into a transfer. Prague exercised an option on the 26-year-old national team striker before the end of the season and signed a multi-year contract with him. Letenští announced this on their website after today’s 3:2 victory in the derby over Slavia.
Kuchta came to Sparta last summer after six months at Lokomotiv, which was complicated by the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Before the season, Letenský gave preference to Slavia, from where he had previously headed for a foreign engagement.
Sparta’s management has now exercised the option in the contract and acquired Kuchta permanently. The Praguers did not disclose the amount for which the club bought back the player.
In Sparta, the Czech national team striker has scored 13 league goals so far, added four assists and is currently the team’s top scorer. With Letenský, he leads the league table by five points ahead of Slavia, and three rounds before the end of the season he is very close to winning the title with them.
“I am happy that the club has agreed on a transfer with Kuchta and that he will stay here for several years. His performance improved during the season, he is a key player for us, he scored important goals. He also does a great job for the team and defensively,” he said Sparta coach Brian Priske at the press conference.
“Today he, Šulo (Lukáš Haraslín) and Minči (Martin Minčev) sacrificed themselves in attack and worked for the team. It is great to see their discipline. I know that Kuchta will provide us with a lot of goals,” added the Danish coach of Prague.
Kuchta already worked in youth teams in Sparta. He then played for Bohemians 1905, Žižkov, Slovácko, Teplice, Liberec and Slavia in the Czech Republic. In the domestic top competition, he has a record of 137 starts and 50 goals. He played for the Czech national team in 14 games and scored three goals.
