A decent, quiet and somewhat mysterious guy. This is the impression that the seventy-one-year-old actor Jan Hartl leaves on most people. He never publicly shook his privacy and always concentrated mainly on his work.
Charismatic Jan Hartl was drawn to acting since childhood. He attended the drama club led by Jiřina Stránská, played in school plays and also guested in Krejčov Theater behind the gate.
So DAMU was a clear choice for him. Until the revolution, he was engaged in the ZN Realistic Theater, where he could play in major plays such as Servant of Two Masters or Cyrano of Bergerac.
Subsequently, he replaced several other theaters, including the one in Vinohrady, and in 1997 he probably reached the highest goal in the theater world – he became part of a drama National Theatre. He stayed there until 2015 and has been a regular guest there ever since.
Introverted youths
He also found use on the radio and lent his voice to a number of audiobooks. But of course, he is also an actor in films and serials.
His first venture was a film in 1974 Jachym, throw him in the machine. Others can be mentioned Porcelain Girls, The Secret of the Castle in the Carpathians, My Sinful Man or The village has a center.
Directors repeatedly chose him to play the roles of teachers or scientists, in short, introverted young men with a comic touch. The list of Hartl’s post-revolutionary serial and film roles is considerably more modest. In 2013 he played in Donshaynech and in 2018 in The golden trap.

A fellow actress and a doctor
Jan Hartl never talked much about his privacy. But it is generally known that many years ago he dated the actress Milena Steinmasslova, whom they met during their studies at DAMU and together they starred in, for example, the series The man at the town hall.
Jan Hartl went on to date the actress Veronika Žilková for about four years, whom he even planned to marry. But she eventually backed out of the relationship, which she wrote about in her book Divide by two.
According to the media, the actor then got together with doctor Olga Škopková. However, in 2007, not long after her forties, she succumbed to malignant cancer.
The media further state that he had two children with Olga, whom he was left to raise alone after her death. However, Jan Hartl does not give interviews and lives away from the media hype.
