Jan Grolich Discusses Traditions and Misconceptions about the South Moravian Region in Interview with Aktuálně.cz

People’s Governor of the South Moravian Region, Jan Grolich, appeared at one of the folklore events and talked about traditions in an interview with Aktuálně.cz. At the same time, he complained about how a certain part of the public views the specific South Moravian region, in which traditions still play a large role, such as walking in costume, singing and playing, faith or mowing the grass.

Jan Grolich is one of the young people’s hopes, first he was the mayor of the South Moravian village of Velatice and then he succeeded in the regional elections, after which he became governor. He is also known for being very active in communicating with people on social media. On them, for example, he apologized for the statements of the People’s Party deputies in the debate on the approval of same-sex marriages.

During the meeting with the Aktuálně.cz reporter, he came to see the Horňácké mowing in Malá Vrbka, which is a village in the immediate vicinity of Slovakia. He confided that he had his own costume made. “If the governor in South Moravia had no relation to traditions, then in my opinion he cannot be the governor either,” he declared, referring to the people from the capital. “The people of Prague think that costume and tradition are played, that it’s a costume, but people here live by it. It’s pride, honor, part of life. It’s just in the people here,” said Grolich, who is preparing for the biggest folklore event year – Slovak year in Kyjov.
