Jan Goossens will leave the management of the Marseille Festival at the end of 2021

After 6 years at the head of the Marseille Festival Jan Goossens will leave his post at the end of 2021. A new challenge has been entrusted to him by the government of the Brussels-Capital Region: the implementation of the ‘Brussels 2030 project ‘, a 10-year cultural journey linked to the candidacy for European Capital of Culture, and to the 200th anniversary of Belgium.

The board of directors underlines that Jan Goossens will follow through on his commitments in Marseille. The ambitious 2021 edition of the Festival, with highlights in June, July and August will be fully supported by Jan Goossens with the Festival team. The current director will also remain present during the fall of 2021 to ensure the transition, and support the first stages of the 2022 edition.

Jan Goossens wishes to thank the artists, the formidable Festival team, the current board of directors, the City of Marseille and the communities, for the work of transformation of the Festival which is underway, of which he is proud, and which is the image of the city-world that is Marseille. This transformation will remain Jan Goossens’ top priority in 2021, with very important milestones next summer.

The Board wishes to thank Jan Goossens for his commitment at the head of the Festival during these 6 years of presence. The Board is deeply grateful to him for the transformation work carried out. He wishes her every success in her future responsibilities.

The CA of the Festival de Marseille is committed to appointing a new directorate for the fall of 2021. The clear objective is the development of the Festival’s current project: a creative festival anchored in its city, Marseille, open to the Mediterranean , and the world. A call for applications will be published in the coming days and will be available on the Festival website.

The 2021 edition of the Marseille Festival will take place from June 17 to July 11, 2021, then from August 24 to 27. The full program will be unveiled on April 15.
