Last December, Dulles and his girlfriend unexpectedly had to say goodbye to Donna, their three-month-old daughter. The girl died from complications arising from a tear in her diaphragm in the arms of her father. The grief was enormous. Although Dulles had made up his mind not to write a song about it, it eventually happened. Thus the song was born Strange Emptiness, in which he sings about the grief he felt.
But now there is a ray of hope in the couple’s life. The two announce today ‘with mixed feelings’ that Caroline is pregnant. “After the grief that we and our immediate family have been through in recent months, this ray of light, this new life, is very welcome,” writes Dulles.
“If all goes well, our third child will arrive at the end of the year,” he continues. The Volendam realizes that it will be a difficult month of December. Donna died in that month. “We hope to enjoy this pregnancy, even though not an hour goes by that we don’t think about Donna.”
Congratulations are now pouring in. Nicolette van Dam and Monique Smit, for example, make themselves heard, but fans of Dulles are also happy for the couple. ‘How nice for you! Wish you a carefree time and also try to enjoy it with sweet little Donna in your mind and heart ‘, is some of the responses.
