Jan Ceuleers, the former director of television at the public broadcaster, has passed away. His family announced this to VRT NWS on Monday. Ceuleers died at the age of 85.

Ceuleers was a doctor of law and worked as a legal advisor early in his career. But then he made a career switch: from 1965 to 1980 he was a political journalist for the public broadcaster, first on the radio, then also on television.

From 1981 to 1985 he was private secretary to SP Minister of Labor and Employment Roger De Wulf, but in 1986 he returned to the Reyerslaan, where he became director-general of television in 1989. He held this position until he retired in 1996.

After his retirement he was still chairman of the Regionale Omroep Brabant, and of the Culture Council of the province of Flemish Brabant.

He was married to Rachel Frederix, a former public broadcaster announcer and the voice of Musti. They have a daughter together, Barbara.
