Who does not remember: Dusty overhead projectors, illegible chalk on the wet blackboard, still work. The satirist Jan Böhmermann presented on Thursday (January 21) with the video “School @ Home – digital supervision and learning unit with Mr. Böhmermann“On the YouTube channel of his program” ZDF Magazin Royale “his latest coup – and it is quite tough. In a “digital” lesson, the 39-year-old mimes a class teacher for 45 minutes, as he is in the book, and in doing so unmistakably addresses a very sensitive topic: German education policy.
Everything, just not digital
Böhmermann delivers a digital lesson, but it is not really digital. In doing so, he shows exaggeratedly and at the same time shamefully realistically what the German educational policy in terms of digitization and progress in the past two decades has gone through the rags. Comments like: “I just notice how sad the school system in Germany is” have already received hundreds of likes below the video. In the explanation of the video, the editors mockingly wrote: “45 minutes of first-class support (can also be used in a continuous loop). Universal, cross-level and interdisciplinary. “
Germany is lagging behind digitization
The Federal Association for the Digital Economy already announced in its report last June “Corona: the morning after” disclosed that German schools have significant gaps in terms of digitization. BVDW President Matthias Wahl made it even more specific and said that the report was “a very sobering signal and bad testimony for German education policy.” The corona pandemic in particular was and is an enormous one for students, parents and teachers Stress and it showed again that there is a lack of resources and staff everywhere. A perfect moment for Böhmermann, who now seized the opportunity to give German educational policy a bitter swipe.
