Jan and Lola from Boxtel win LEGO Masters with ‘convincing majority’

The duo Jan Pennings (31) and Lola Nouwens (29) from Boxtel won the RTL program ‘LEGO Masters’ on Saturday evening. According to the jury, the two won by a convincing majority. They are the first winners of the TV program in the Netherlands.

The two ex-lovers competed in the final against the Flemish Björn and Corneel who eventually finished third. The Dutch duo Jos and Martijn finished second in the final.

For nine weeks, the TV program on RTL4 attracted remarkably high viewing figures. The two Brabanders did not count as sky-high favorites in advance and were even sent away almost once. However, they also managed to win an episode and they grew further and further in the match.

Free hand
While the past eight broadcasts were each given a building order by the Dutch brickmaster Bas Brederode, the three duos now got a free hand. They were allowed to build what they always wanted to make. The Flemish became a crashed spaceship and the other Dutch team chose a huge red dragon.

Jan and Lola made a Mayan temple with a dragon with a snake tail on it. They had also made a moving waterfall in their jungle and the building was filled with small stories with LEGO figures.

The teams were allowed to build 28 hours on their last assignment. A wear stroke especially for Lola who was through it a few times. During the filming, however, she received a visit from her mother, which clearly provided new energy. Also for the other participants, a loved one came along during the construction process for a mental boost.

To vote
During the announcement of the result, it was said that the Boxtel duo had won by a convincing majority. They received a voice from the internationally acclaimed LEGO designer and brickmaster Justin Ramsden. Good for fifty points. Former participants of the TV program were also allowed to vote. That gave Jan and Lola ten extra points a few times.

In addition to brickmasters Bas and Justin, and the former participants, 150 regular LEGO fans were also allowed to vote for their favorite building. Each vote was worth one point. The TV program showed that many children went for the building of Jan and Lola.

The two Brabanders can not only call themselves the first LEGO Masters of the Benelux, they also win a check of 25,000 euros and a trip to the Lego House in Denmark.
