Jamila al-Shanti was killed in an Israeli raid in Gaza Strip. Widow of the co-founder of Hamas, Abdel Aziz al-Rantisi, was the first woman to arrive, in 2021, in the political office of the Palestinian terrorist group. The woman was also part of the Palestinian Legislative Council. Her husband al-Rantisi was killed in April 2004 in an Israeli raid during the Second Intifada.
Al-Shanti, 68 years old, had founded the Hamas women’s movement, recalls the Israeli press. She holds a PhD in English and has worked as a lecturer at the University of Gaza. Elected in 2006, she was the oldest woman among Hamas deputies.
