Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has praised Newcastle manager Eddie Howe for 2022.
“I don’t think any other manager has been able to top the work Howe has done at St James’ Park over the last 12 months. If the Saudi Arabian owners had somehow managed to lure Pep Guardiola or Jurgen Klopp to the north -east after the takeover of the club, their team would not be ranked better.
He took over the penultimate Premier League side and lifted them to third place thanks to a combination of good signings and a significant improvement in the players he inherited. Financial backing is important, but it’s secondary to how Howe changed the style of Newcastle. They went from being a defensively driven team that eats results to a team that dictates the game,” Carragher told The Telegraph.
