A NASA has unveiled the first set of images captured by the James Webb Space Telescope, the ambitious successor to Hubble with which the space agency hopes to improve its ability to observe deep space.
The ‘mosaic’ of images captured by James Webb does not represent the full capabilities of this new space telescope, since the equipment’s 18 main mirrors are still in the alignment phase.
As for the images themselves, all points of light represent a single isolated star known as HD 84406. The US space agency said that it took 25 hours to collect enough light to generate the ‘mosaic’ of images, with the 18 images at be composed of 1,500 photographs put together by James Webb.
In short, this ‘mosaic’ should serve to give an idea of the capabilities of the space telescope, although the potential of James Webb is yet to be fully revealed.
