James Webb shows the expansion of the universe

Freedman and his team used the JWST data to measure the distances to 10 nearby galaxies and found that the results were consistent with existing standard cosmological models.

In a major breakthrough, new data from the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) suggests that the phenomenon known as the “Hubble squeeze” may not exist. Research published in The Astrophysical Journal by cosmologist Wendy Freedman from the University of Chicago, found that the current expansion speed of the universe is about 70 kilometers per second per megaparsec.

Reporting from Wion News (18/8)Freedman and his team used the JWST data to calculate the distances to 10 nearby galaxies and found that the results were consistent with existing standard cosmological models. “We found no strong evidence of a Hubble compression with the JWST data and three other independent methods,” Freedman said. “This shows that our standard cosmological model is still valid.”

The Hubble Constant, measured since 1929, shows how fast galaxies are moving away from Earth. Determining the exact number for this constant is important because it helps scientists understand the expansion rate of the universe and the evolution of the cosmos as a whole. Previously used methods showed different figures: about 67.4 kilometers per second per megaparsec of cosmic background radiation, and 74 kilometers per second per megaparsec based on stars in nearby galaxies.

The results of this research have the potential to change the paradigm in cosmology and fundamental physics. If the Hubble compression, which was previously considered a major problem in current cosmological models, does not exist, this could correct the widely accepted theories regarding the expansion of the universe.

Further research is needed to confirm these findings and to fully understand the implications of cosmological theory. It is expected that researchers will provide a deeper insight into the evolution of the cosmos and the accuracy of existing cosmological models.
