James Wan Mocks Aquaman 2 Marketing and Promotional Strategies – Fans Show Disapproval

Jakarta

The teaser trailer released by DC for Aquaman 2 caused a stir in cyberspace and also superhero film fans. Unfortunately the response was not positive and mostly contained ridicule and criticism.

This also disturbed the director, James Wan. However, instead of defending his film, he actually joined in mocking the marketing and promotional strategies carried out by the studio. He also provided criticism and supported what the fans said.

“Holy shit this is so funny, they made a trailer for a trailer?” wrote netizens in uploading the teaser trailer on Instagram.

This comment was responded to by James Wan with the account @creepypuppet.

“Haha, I know, that’s funny, right,” replied James Wan.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom has indeed become one of the most highlighted projects and now seems to be DC’s stepchild. After being postponed many times, they finally got a broadcast schedule on December 20.

Unfortunately, instead of actively promoting the film, they only released a teaser trailer and only scheduled the official trailer for Thursday (14/9). And once again, this action has drawn criticism and even ridicule from netizens.

“This looks like it will be bad. Everything seen in the teaser trailer shows it. I kind of hope this film is never made,” wrote a netizen.

“It’s very slow if you have just created marketing material for a film that will be released in less than 100 days,” wrote another.

Previously, Aquaman had become DC’s golden child and was proven to be one of the studio’s biggest profit earners with total revenue reaching IDR 17 trillion in 2018. Unfortunately, this big achievement actually made the burden on the second film even bigger and even the film’s production costs rose sharply to reach 205 million USD.

This is due to the filming and post-filming process where they use a lot of effects. In fact, as reported by Collider, almost every scene there contains visual effects (VFX). However, it was not stated in detail how much additional costs DC spent on the film.

If you look back, Aquaman really needed a lot of VFX, especially for the underwater scenes. They also don’t want to be ridiculed again because of the bad visuals displayed in these scenes.

To improve the visuals, they also present new technology that promises more beautiful and real images. James Wan also shared several charming images of what he called the underwater world in Aquaman 2.
