James Vowles, head of Williams Racing, summarized the sad results of the Brazilian weekend, which ended for the British team not only with double retirements, but also with several serious accidents.
James Vowles: “Sometimes in Formula 1 you get amazing results and experience the happiest feelings, but sometimes you have to go through sad times – that’s the nature of our sport.” We have to admit that the Brazilian weekend for us went according to the second of those two conditions.
Our cars have been involved in three serious accidents within a few hours of each other, and now the team has a lot of work to do to restore the life of spare parts before we go to Las Vegas.
Our competitors, the Alpine team, were very fast in the race, there is no doubt about it, and they deserved this result (both Renault factory team drivers were on the podium). But they won a lot of points, which allowed them to rise to 6th place in the team standings, and we fell back to 9th.
I never give up and I’m not going to give up until the last minute, that is. until the checkered flag is the last race in Abu Dhabi, because our team has two fast drivers and we have a fast car. In the remaining stages of the competition, we must do everything we can to earn more points, while we continue to prepare for the 2025 and 2026 seasons to achieve our main goals. But the proper foundations for this must be laid now.
However, all this does not reduce the painful experiences that we have after the Grand Prix of Sao Paulo, and I watched the race to the end to remember this day, because I don’t -really want these failures to happen again in the future.”
