Despite a problem in his recovery from injury, James Forrest should be fit for the delayed finals of the summer Euro 2020, says Celtic coach Neil Lennon.

The 29-year-old Scottish winger has missed more than four months of action after ankle surgery.

Lennon explained that Forrest could even be competing for a spot on his team against the Rangers, leaders of Celtic’s Premier League, on March 21.

“We want him to come back right away, to get to work,” Lennon said.

“He has had a little setback in terms of his rehabilitation. We are watching it. He has been away for a long time and it has been a real blow for him and for us ”.

“I can’t give you a timescale, but it shouldn’t be too far in the near future.

“We hope he can get back to training next week and, if that’s the case, he might need a week or two to adjust to the cardiovascular work that that entails, and then they’ll see him in squads again.”

When asked if David Turnbull had done enough to be considered for a spot on the Scotland team this summer, Lennon said it was a question for national manager Steve Clarke.

“He has done very well, considering it is his first season with the club,” he said of the 21-year-old who has not been called up, who has scored seven goals from midfield since December.

“There is room for improvement, there is no doubt. He spent a lot of time with his knee injury, but he has come back fantastically well and has certainly made a great contribution and we hope he continues. “

“We are delighted with what we are seeing from David and if that is enough for the euros, we will also be delighted to see him.”

Lennon’s team, which is 15 points behind Scottish Premiership leaders Rangers, will visit bottom bottom from Ross County on Sunday.
