James Corden: – Breaks the silence about Ellen rumors

This summer, there were rumors that talk show host James Corden (42) would replace Ellen DeGeneres (62). The British tabloid newspaper The Sun was among the foreign media who claimed that Corden would take over for the 62-year-old.

The rumors built on the storm of criticism and the accusations DeGeneres has been in the middle since the end of March.

That was when the first accusations against the 62-year-old and the working environment in her program began to become known. Since then, the storm has flared up, and this summer it was at its worst.

In recent months, an internal investigation has taken place to investigate whether the accusations are true. It has, among other things led to three leaders being fired.

Responds to rumors

Corden is now talking about the rumors in a new episode of “The Late Late Show with James Corden”, where singing star Alicia Keys (39) is a guest. Corden explains that he has no idea where the rumors come from.

– I think someone started a reputation somewhere, and someone else just jumped on it. There is absolutely no truth in those rumors at all. The way I look at it, I think it would be insane to take over for someone who I think has done the job so well for 18 years, he says.

– It is not true. And I think that when the day comes for this talk show to end, it will be the day where I will probably stop being a talk show host every day. So no, I would not have done that, Corden emphasizes.

The theme comes up during the game called “Play Your Guts or Fill Your Guts”, which Corden plays with the Keys. The game involves asking each other different questions, and if one of the players does not answer the questions, they must eat a tasteless food.

However, DeGeneres was not the only star mentioned during the game. The pop star also asked the “Carpool Karaoke” star to rate former Grammy hosts. However, it turned out that Corden was more than willing to fill his stomach rather than answer. Thus, he had to drink a glass of sausage water.

Back after the charges

Corden’s response to the rumors comes shortly after DeGeneres was back on the TV screen in his well-known talk show studio, Monday this week.

There she spoke for the first time publicly about the charges.

– As you have probably heard, this summer there have been accusations of a toxic working environment here on the show, and there has been an investigation. I have learned that things have happened here that should never have happened. I take it very seriously, and I want to say that I am so sorry for the people who were affected. I know I’m in a position of privilege and power, and I realize that with that comes responsibility, and I take responsibility for what happens on my show, DeGeneres said.

She made no secret of the fact that it was good to comment on the matter, and pointed out that they had had many conversations in recent weeks about the program, the working environment and what they want for the future.

DeGeneres also gave a rather unreserved apology for the alleged poor working environment.

– If I ever have the drawer, otherwise hurt their feelings, I’m so sorry. If that’s ever the case, I’ve disappointed myself, and I’ve hurt myself too, because I’re always trying to grow as a person. I see everything that comes in my life as an opportunity to learn. I went into this business to make people laugh and feel good, she continued.

Following the premiere, figures have shown that it is DeGeneres’ most watched premiere since 2016, but it should turn out that viewership numbers are not everything, according to New York Post.

The host received harsh criticism for how she handled the situation on the screen, and while she, as mentioned above, almost lay flat after the accusations against her, the star also came up with several jokes during the opening monologue.

– Made it about her

This did not fall into very good soil, and some fans described the 62-year-old’s opening as tone-deaf.

“This does not seem authentic,” one viewer wrote on Twitter earlier this week, according to Cosmopolitan.

“Ellen was accused of horrible behavior in the workplace by MANY people and thought it was cool to drive dirty jokes in her monologue,” another followed up.

“Ellen DeGeneres’ monologue / apology would have seemed so much more genuine without jokes and applause in between,” pointed out a third, while another was disgusted by how the talk show star took on the role of victim.

According to the American magazine, a former employee of the program also had little appreciation for the fact that the host turned the situation around to her, and not the serious accusations against her program.

– Not only did Ellen turn my traumas, our traumas, into jokes, she somehow managed to make this about her. When she said “my summer was fantastic”, and it should be fun, I thought “it’s funny that you had a tough summer as everyone accused you of a toxic work environment and now you are the one struggling”, said the former employee .
