James Cameron cut ten minutes of shooting from ‘Avatar 2’ – director became an opponent of guns

Avatar: The Way of the Water director James Cameron stated that the length of the film should have been ten minutes longer, but decided to eliminate some action scenes that used firearms. According to Cameron, he no longer wants to “fetishize guns” in movies. The director spoke about it in an interview with Esquire.

Cameron also noted that he now looks differently at many of his older paintings, including The Terminator. The director is not sure he would like to make a film now where the emphasis is on guns and violence.

Looking back at some of the films I’ve made, I can’t tell if I’d like to make them now. I don’t think in our day and age we would fetishize guns, as I did in a couple of Terminator movies over 30 years ago. What happens to guns in our society shocks me.

The duration of the tape “Avatar: The Way of Water” was 3 hours 12 minutes. The worldwide release of the tape took place on December 16th. In Russia, the film was released on December 22, but is only available in some cinemas: the big chains will show it in January.
