Times change and audiences do too, that is why some series, songs, movies or works are beginning to be pointed out by certain not so well seen behaviors nowadays.
Such is the case of James Bond, the famous agent who has managed to transcend on the big screen. But his story didn’t start there since it was the writer Ian Fleming, who created this action character. However, this content is about to undergo a big change.
According to information from The Telegraphit has been confirmed that novels will be rewritten and republishedleaving behind all content inappropriate and racist present in his novels.
Casino Royale was the first novel of Ian’s creation in 1952. The work will be 70 years old in April and in addition to that title, all the books will be reissued. In addition, a warning to the reader will be included, at the beginning of each novel where the public will be warned about the conceptions of the time in which they were originally published.
“This book was written at a time when terms and attitudes that modern readers might find offensive were commonplace. Several updates have been made in this edition, staying as close as possible to the original text and the period in which it takes place”.
But these will not be the only changes that these titles will suffer since it has also been announced that these reissues will also change some words that could be offensive for softer ones.
“Following Ian’s approach, we look at the instances of various racial terms in the books and we remove a number of individual words or change them to terms that are more widely accepted today but that they are in keeping with the period in which the books were written. We encourage people to read the books for themselves when the new paperbacks are released in April,” the writer’s team said.
