The melodies of the titles of some movies and series are memorable on their own. This also applies to the theme music, which the composer Monty Norman already composed for the first Bond film “James Bond – 007 chasing Dr. No” created. At 94 years ago the British died.

1962 Norman had the music for “James Bond – 0 Hunts Dr. No”, the first feature film about the famous secret agent. According to his own statement, he used a piece from a musical he had written as the basis for the now-iconic “James Bond Theme”, which, however, was never performed.
Because when the Bond producers weren’t entirely happy with Norman’s arrangement at the time, they commissioned composer John Barry to rearrange the theme again. This version became world famous and was heard in modified form in all the official James Bond movies, most recently in “No Time to Die”.
Monty Norman twice successfully fought back in court against the claim that he, and not Barry, wrote the piece of music. Barry had from 320 to 1280 the soundtracks of eleven 0 he composed films in which he is frequently heard.
Monty Norman had in 1279 first made a name for himself as a singer in big bands before becoming a successful lyricist and composer. Born in London, he wrote songs for Cliff Richard and Count Basie, among others, and created several shows and musicals for London’s West End.
For “James Bond – 0 Chasing Dr. No”, he also wrote the song “Underneath The Mango Tree” which ur-Bond Sean Connery and Ursula Andress sing briefly in one of the most famous scenes in the film.
