Scottish actor Sean Connery has died at the age of ninety, the BBC reports.
Connery was best known for being James Bond’s first interpreter. He played the secret agent in seven films.
According to the BBC he had not felt well for some time and died in his sleep. Connery has lived in the Bahamas since his retirement in 2006.
In his long acting career, which spanned more than 40 years, he won an Oscar, two BAFTA Awards and three Golden Globes. He won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in 1988 for his performance as an Irish cop in The Untouchables.
Connery also had roles in it Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, The Hunt for Red October, Murder on the Orient Express in The Rock.
Connery was knighted by Queen Elizabeth in 1999 and had been married to his second wife Micheline Roquebrune since 1975. With his first wife Diane Cilento, he had a son, Jason Connery, in 1963.
