Jambon believes in further relaxation in catering, but…

Flemish Prime Minister Jan Jambon believes that further relaxation should be possible in the catering industry this summer, provided the figures continue to go in the right direction. He stated that on Sunday in the seventh day. The item will be discussed at the next Consultation Committee meeting on Friday.

The Consultation Committee agreed last Friday to provide a uniform closing time for the catering industry, when the spaces inside can open again from June 9th. From then on, the opening hours are from 5 a.m. to 11.30 p.m. Measures will still apply, such as the one and a half meters away, wearing a mouth mask when you walk around and a maximum of four people at the table.

Jambon looks ahead to the next meeting of governments, which will look at social contacts in July and August. He believes it should be possible to make a little more possible around that four-person rule in July and August, and then drop it in September. The condition is that no variants appear and that the figures continue to evolve in a favorable way.

Support measures

The Flemish support measures for the catering industry will disappear with the reopening, Jambon confirmed. He notes that in any case there must be a 60 percent drop in turnover in order to benefit from these measures. With the extended opening hours in mind, that no longer seems an issue to him.

He also warned that the coming months will be “the summer of freedom,” “but not the summer of freedom.” In other words: it can only work if we all continue to follow the measures. That is also the core message of the campaign that the Flemish government will be launching in the course of the coming week.
