This Saturday we are going to talk about a recent NBA star, who was one of the best defenders of the championship. This is Roy Hibert.
Who was?: A Jamaican center from the late 2000s to the end of the last decade.
What is he remembered for? Well, for being an All Star twice and for being considered one of the best defenders in the NBA at the time.
What became of him?: He retired in 2017 at the Denver Nuggets. Currently, he works on the Philadelphia 76ers coaching staff, handling player development.
Did you know…?: He was born in New York, the son of a Jamaican father and a Trinidadian mother.
– As a child he played tennis and golf.
– He also received piano lessons.
– He was selected in the first round of the draft of 2008, that of Derrick Rose, Russell Westbrook or Kevin Love, among others.
– He was one of the best defenders of his time and in 2014 he was second in the ranking of best defender of the season, after Joakim Noah.
– Participated twice in the All Star.
– In 2007 he competed for the United States in the Pan American Games, but from the following year he decided to play with Jamaica, a team he came to captain.
– He made cameos in the series Parks and Recreations and The Eric Andre Show.
– During his NBA career he averaged 10 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1.7 blocks.
– He is 2.18 meters tall.
Biography, honors, statistics: Roy Denzil Hibbert was born on December 11, 1986 in Queens, New York. He debuted in the NBA in 2008 with the Indiana Pacers. In 2015 he went to the Lakers and the following year he joined the Charlotte Hornets. In 2017 he went to the Denver Nuggets, where he retired.
