The new flagship Airbus A350-1000 introduced by Japan Airlines (JAL). In 2013, JAL placed a firm order for 18 Airbus A350-900 aircraft for domestic flights, with the aim of replacing Boeing 777s currently in use on domestic and international routes. The first aircraft was received in June 2019 and began service on the Haneda/Fukuoka route in September. Since then, we have continued to increase the number of aircraft, and have received a total of 16 aircraft, ranging from “JA01XJ” to “JA16XJ”, which are used on domestic trunk lines such as the Haneda/New Chitose Line and the Naha Line. Cabin specifications vary depending on the aircraft, and there are two types in total. There are planes with 391 seats (12 first class seats, 56 class J seats, 323 regular seats) and 369 seats (12 first class seats, 94 class J seats, 263 regular seats).

The aircraft size is approximately the same as the Boeing 777-200, with a total length of 66.8m, width of 64.75m, and height of 17.05m. More than 450 aircraft are in operation around the world, and many are also deployed at Japanese airports. As a derivative, the A350-900ULR for ultra-long-haul routes has also been developed, and is operated by Singapore Airlines, as well as a private jet version, which is operated by the Luftwaffe as a government aircraft.

◼️Long-body A350-1000, the “face” of JAL
At the same time as the A350-900, JAL placed a firm order for 13 A350-1000s for international flights. Since 2004, we have ordered the same number of aircraft as our current flagship Boeing 777-300ER, which replaced the Boeing 747-400.
The first aircraft, JA01WJ, will be received in December, and the second aircraft, JA02WJ, and third aircraft, JA03WJ, will be received by the end of the year, and the plan is to deploy them on the Haneda/New York (JFK) and Dallas routes. In the future, as more aircraft are added, they will be introduced to American and European routes where the 777-300ER is currently being used, and replacement will progress.

There is currently one type of cabin, with a total of 239 seats: 6 first class seats, 54 business class seats, 24 premium economy class seats, and 155 economy class seats. The 777-300ER has 244 seats, 8 first class seats, 49 business class seats, 40 premium economy class seats, and 147 economy class seats, so there will be 5 fewer seats due to the replacement.

The aircraft size is approximately the same as the long-body 777-300 in the Boeing 777 series, with a total length of 73.79m, width of 64.75m, and height of 17.08m. The number of airlines in operation around the world is still small, and apart from Cathay Pacific and Qatar Airways, which also operate routes to Japan, only British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, Air Caraibes, French Blue, and Etihad Airways operate them. . Etihad Airways has announced that it will introduce the aircraft to its Narita/Abu Dhabi route from January 16, 2024 (Tuesday).
The number of orders is on the rise, with Air India (34 aircraft) and EVA Air (18 aircraft) placing orders in 2023. Qantas plans to introduce it for ultra-long-haul flights from the second half of 2025.

In terms of appearance, the major difference between the two aircraft is their size. The fuselage of the A350-1000 is approximately 7.7m longer than that of the A350-900.
