Jalen Hurts signs record-breaking contract extension with Philadelphia Eagles

Berlin (AP) – Quarterback superstar Jalen Hurts has agreed to extend his contract with the Philadelphia Eagles, making him the football professional with the highest annual salary in NFL history.

The 24-year-old will stay until 2028, the franchise announced. According to US media reports, Hurts will receive 255 million dollars (around 232 million euros) for his new five-year contract. Hurts rakes in an average of $51 million a year – the highest amount an NFL team would ever pay for a player.

Accordingly, 179 million dollars are guaranteed from the mega sum. So far, only the controversial quarterback Deshaun Watson from the Cleveland Browns has received more guarantee payments – he is entitled to the entire $ 230 million of his five-year contract regardless of his sporting performance. So far, only Patrick Mahomes from the Kansas City Chiefs has traded more in total in 2020: According to the media, Mahomes is worth $ 477 million for ten years.

The extension will take effect from the 2025 season. According to the media, Hurts will receive $ 4.2 million in the coming season. Hurts is also said to be the first player in Eagles history to have a so-called no-trade clause in his contract. He should only be given to another team if he agrees.

Hurts led the Eagles to the Super Bowl this season, but was defeated by quarterback superstars Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs (35-38).
