Jalandhar District Recognized for Leading HIV/AIDS Eradication Efforts
Jalandhar district in Punjab, India, has been lauded for its exceptional efforts in combating the HIV/AIDS epidemic. The district received the "Best Performing District" award for its successful implementation of the District Integrated Strategy for HIV and AIDS Programme. The prestigious award was presented by Dr. Balbir Singh, the Punjab Health Minister, at a state-level event held on December 1st in Patiala, coinciding with World AIDS Day.
"This recognition is a testament to the tireless work of our dedicated health professionals and community partners," said Deputy Commissioner Dr. Himanshu Aggarwal.
He highlighted the significant achievements of the district’s Red Ribbon Clubs, a youth-led initiative promoting awareness about HIV/AIDS and the dangers of drug addiction.
“,"We have 39 active clubs led by the Youth Services Department. Their efforts have been recognized as best practices at the state level," Dr. Aggarwal explained.
“This award underscores our ongoing commitment to eradicate HIV/AIDS. It’s a collective effort involving early diagnosis, rapid treatment, patient care, and public education – all these initiatives ultimately improve the lives of those affected by HIV/AIDS,"
He commended the Health and Youth Services Departments for their unwavering dedication, specifically praising the contributions of Civil Surgeon Dr. Gurmeet Singh and Assistant Director Youth Services Ravi Dara.
“ We want to encourage other departments to follow this model and extend government welfare initiatives to reach those at the grassroots level," concluded Dr. Aggarwal.
The Deputy Commissioner emphasized that the recognition reflects Jalandhar’s commitment to creating a healthier, drug-free society through proactive community engagement, education, and awareness initiatives.
