The Polish national volleyball team won the title of Olympic vice-champions on Saturday. – It’s a great success and a historic feat – said Jakub Kochanowski, the center of the White and Reds, after the final match of the XXXIII Summer Olympic Games. On Saturday, the Polish team had to admit the superiority of France in the decisive match.
Nikola Grbić’s players played their best in Saturday’s final of the XXXIII Summer Olympic Games Paris 2024. They fought until the last ball, but ultimately, after three sets of competition, the Three Colors were victorious, defending the title won three years ago in Tokyo.
After the match, the players were happy to have won a medal, but also slightly disappointed that they had finished second on the podium, not the highest. As Jakub Kochanowski, the Polish team’s middle blocker, admitted, in some time the whole team will appreciate this success.
– This is a historic achievement. It is not always easy to smile after a lost match. We will definitely need some time to come to terms with this defeat. However, I know from experience that the longer this silver medal hangs around our necks, the more joy it will bring – he confessed immediately after the medal ceremony. After a 48-year break, Poles once again won a medal at the Olympic Games – this time a silver one. This is the first medal of this colour in the history of Polish volleyball. In 1976, the team led by Hubert Jerzy Wagner won gold in Montreal.
