Jakobsen on the concerns: “It didn’t work at all”

The great armies of the mountains eat away at the alpine ridges.

The world stars know who will start the slalom season in Finnish Levi this weekend. Not the least Swedish hope Kristoffer Jakobsen.

In March, he finished tenth in the slalom cup after, among other things, a prestigious place on the podium in Kitzbühel.

When it was a month or two later to start this year’s pre-season training, however, he ran into a familiar obstacle:

– I had to get an injection with cortisone in the facet joint, where my back feels a bit like that, Jakobsen tells DN.

He had to break the first camp of the summer.

– It was not possible to go at all, so he felt a little sad. But after the injection I was able to go to the whole camp in Argentina (a couple of weeks later). It was good that it worked. Because you worry about how soon something will go wrong, when you can’t go at all – because it was so bad.

He had exactly the same thing problem last pre-season, it continues.

– But then I took an injection and then I drove the whole season. So I hope he has the same effect now – that he lasts the season. But you don’t know.

– You must also not compete for two weeks when you have taken the cortisone. So it’s a bit like “hell”… but there are more of us who have the same problem.

That he has been able to train as he wanted after the injection, and also able to go quickly against good resistance, however filled with good energy.

Add last year that the 30-year-old was on his feet more than usual, and he could sum up the best season of his career.

Jakobsen really shines when he talks about last winter and the one to come.

Does it feel like you have new confidence?

– Yes, but really. In the first half of last year, there was still a bit of a skirmish, but it was a fun second half.

– Now I go in with a good rating, twice as good as before. So I come in with a damn good starting position.

How good is it not to talk about tours?

– It’s nice! laughs Jakobsen, who admitted that he came in seventh place in the 2018 Olympics, but ran out of every toilet he started and also at the 2022 Olympics.

So it has turned around now?

– Haha. Well… we’ll see. I may always have some concerns. I have been a little behind in endurance, I was a little older when I joined the national team. But finally I’m starting to get a little closer.

He might lose the team championship in the toilet in Austria in February, when he was at the same time intended to be a father. But the WC slalom twelve days later he hopes to be able to drive, and then run the first individual competition medal.

Kristoffer Jakobsen has three podiums in his World Cup career, the first in 2021, but no victory yet.

Therefore, the goal in addition to the success of WC is clear:

– For my first victory in the World Cup. I still felt that I had felt.
