Jakob Silfverberg has made a first statement about the future.

Now the door opens for games in Brynäs when it is clear that he is leaving the NHL.

– For us in and around Brynäs IF it would be a dream, says sports director Johan Alcén.

He left Sweden and Brynäs as newly crowned Swedish champion after lifting the Le Mat trophy as team captain.

Since then, Jakob Silfverberg has played 13 seasons in the world’s best ice hockey league for the Ottawa Senators and Anaheim Ducks.

Now the latter announce that the 33-year-old Gävlesonen will leave the NHL when the season ends.

– It has been an honor and a privilege to play in the NHL. I want to thank the Samueli family for their way of being, how they cared for the society around us and wanted to influence themselves. I wouldn’t be where I am today without my teammates, the coaches and all the leaders who helped me along the way. Above all, I want to thank my family for letting me live my dream.

Previously opened for Brynäs

Silfverberg has played 11 seasons for the Ducks and has four years as assistant team captain behind him.

So far, with three regular season games left in the season where the Ducks will miss the playoffs, he has played 817 regular season games and 69 playoff games in the NHL.

– Thanks to all the supporters around the league, not least to those in Anaheim and Ottawa. Spending 11 years in Orange county and playing for the Ducks is something I will carry with me for the rest of my life. Thanks to all of you, says Silfverberg.

Now most indications are that he will return home to Gävle for games in Brynäs again. He explained that himself as his goal just under a year ago in an interview with Sportbladet. It was then clear that his plan since he left had been to move home and end his career in Brynäs if his body held

Johan Alcén’s answer about Silfverberg

At the same time, it is a fact that in recent seasons Silfverberg has, among other things, suffered a blood clot in his leg, which could put a damper on such a plan.

But the opening for games in Brynäs is inevitable, which Brynäs sports director Johan Alcén also answers about.

– Of course, we are aware of the contract situation for all “our” NHL players. Of course, we dream of all these coming home and representing Brynäs again. But how big the possibilities are, you need to ask “Silver”, for us in and around Brynäs IF it would be like I said a dream, he says to Sportbladet.
