Jakarta –
Imported rice has started to enter Bulog warehouses. In the initial rice import assignment of 500,000 tons, most of it was purchased from Thailand and Vietnam.
“Most of it (rice imports) comes from Thailand and Vietnam. This is from the first 500,000 ton contract,” said Corporate Secretary of Perum Bulog Awaludin Iqbal, to detikcom, Saturday (13/5/2023).
The imported rice that has entered Bulog warehouses increased by 52,000 tons from the previous 80,000 tons. This means that as much as 132,000 tons of imported rice have entered Bulog’s warehouses.
“(Imported rice) 132,000 tons are already in warehouses. (An increase of 52,000 tons) has entered Bulog warehouses,” he said.
Meanwhile, imported rice that was on its way also increased, namely by 290,000 tons from the previous 270,000 tons.
“Yes, it keeps moving, Bulog has also contracted 500,000 tons from the four countries,” he continued.
The import of 500,000 tons this year is a new assignment to meet the needs of the government’s rice reserves (CBP). CBP itself is indeed needed by the government to maintain the supply and price of rice in the market.
Previously, the Main Director of Perum Bulog Budi Waseso had said that the imports were needed to distribute rice social assistance for 3 months.
Imports were also carried out because the supply of rice in Bulog warehouses was running low. So, requiring procurement from abroad is needed in order to carry out assignments from the government to distribute rice social assistance.
“With the task of distributing social assistance, we don’t have any ammunition. We are working on it, for acceleration. Indeed, we need to be reassigned, sir, for the benefit of social assistance bringing in 500,000 tons of imports,” he said in a meeting with Commission IV DPR RI, Monday (3/4 /2023).
