JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Jakarta’s air quality on Sunday (20/8/2023) morning was still in the unhealthy category.
The air quality in the Capital City as of 07.41 WIB is even ranked first in the world’s worst.
Quoted from the IQAir air quality measurement page, the air quality index in DKI Jakarta is recorded at 161 or is the worst compared to other big cities around the world.
The second rank is occupied by the city of Doha in Qatar which has an air quality index of 155.
The highest pollutant concentration in DKI Jakarta’s air today is PM 2.5, with a concentration value of 105 micrograms per cubic meter.
This concentration is 15 times the annual air quality guideline value of the World Health Organization (WHO).

With the above data, it means that the air quality in Jakarta remains poor even though most of the people in the capital city do not go to work this Sunday morning.
Car free days or motorized vehicle free days implemented at a number of points, including Jalan Sudirman-Thamrin, have also had little effect on improving air quality.
When compared to previous days, the severity of air quality in Jakarta has actually increased.
The reason is, on Saturday (19/8/2023) and Friday (18/8/2023), the air quality index in Jakarta is at 141 and 120
Meanwhile, on Thursday (17/8/2023), the air quality index in Jakarta was quite low, namely 99.
Responding to Jakarta’s poor air quality, the IQAir website recommends people wear masks, turn on air filters, close windows, and avoid outdoor activities.
