The Jakarta Metropolitan Police predicts that the 2023 Eid al-Fitr exodus peaks will occur in two phases, starting from April 14th. The second peak is expected to occur on April 18th-19th. Meanwhile, the Eid reverse exodus flow, when travelers return from their respective hometowns to Jakarta, is also predicted to occur in two phases, with the first phase expected on April 25th. The second peak of the Eid reverse exodus is expected from April 30th to May 1st. The Jakarta police is implementing measures to ensure safe and smooth Eid exodus travel this year, including coordinating meetings, disseminating information about safe travel, conducting traffic adjustment measures, and optimizing police service points within the Greater Jakarta agglomeration. The Transportation Ministry estimated that 123.8 million residents would return to their hometowns during this year’s Eid exodus, an increase from 85 million in 2022. Of the total projected travelers this year, 99.22 million are expected to travel by land, including 27.32 million residents by private car and 22.77 million by bus.
