Jakarta MotoGP News: RNF MotoGP Team Removal and Replacement

Jakarta

CryptoData RNF MotoGP Team has been removed from MotoGP 2024. The position of the racing team from Malaysia will soon be replaced by another team.

In MotoGP’s official announcement, Monday (27/11/2023), this decision was taken after RNF, which has the status of an Aprilia satellite team, was declared “to have violated the Participation Agreement repeatedly, which had an impact on the image of MotoGP.”

The verdict was handed down by the MotoGP Selection Committee which consists of members of the FIM, IRTA and Dorna Sports. Signals of problems within the RNF emerged after Razlan Razali, the founder and holder of 40 percent of RNF shares, stated that he was leaving ahead of the Valencia MotoGP.

The Race reported that RNF had hundreds of thousands of Euros in unpaid debt, and Razali was ‘let go’ due to the team’s performance as well as poor financial decisions. Now RNF is run by two Romanian businessmen who own CryptoData, Ovidiu Toma and Bogdan Maruntis.

They are said to be fighting this decision in court. Razali himself admitted that he was not fired, but resigned because of differences in vision with the people behind CryptoData as the majority shareholder.

Meanwhile, the MotoGP Selection Committee said that the team that will replace RNF will be the Aprilia satellite team. This new team is expected to continue to employ two current RNF drivers, Miguel Oliveira and Raul Fernandez.

In the 2023 MotoGP season, RNF failed to achieve a single podium, with Oliveira achieving a best finish of fourth in the British MotoGP. Meanwhile, Fernandez’s best achievement came at the Valencia MotoGP by finishing fifth.
