Jakarta –
Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Arifin Tasrif announced, subsidies for electric motorbike conversion increased from the original IDR 7 million to IDR 10 million. He said, the nominal increase is now in effect.
“Rp. 10 million has been decided for the conversion. Starting now, it will be running,” said Arifin Tasrif when met by media crew at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Jakarta, quoted from detikFinanceFriday (10/11).
Even though the conversion subsidy has been increased, the subsidy for purchasing a new electric motorbike is still the same, namely IDR 7 million per unit. According to him, there needs to be different ‘treatment’ for new electric motorbikes and conversions.
“That’s (Rp. 7 million) for a new motorbike. Now, if it’s a new motorbike and a used motorbike, it’s different,” he said.

Meanwhile, Rachmat Kaimuddin, Deputy for Infrastructure and Transportation Coordination at the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Kemenko Marves), admitted that his party will try to increase the amount of subsidies for electric vehicles next year.
“We’re trying, we’re calculating. It hasn’t been decided yet but it’s something we’re considering,” said Rachmat.
Rachmat explained that the government continues to evaluate the provision of incentives for electric vehicles. This is because the realization of incentives for electric vehicles is considered not yet optimal, for example the electric motorbike conversion program.

The cost range for converting a petrol motorbike to an electric motorbike is IDR 15 million. Meanwhile, the government provided assistance of IDR 7 million. This means that the costs that people need to pay for conversion are still high.
“Currently, until 2024 (the incentive scheme) will be similar to the current one. For motorbikes, a new motorbike is IDR 7 million. For a conversion it is also IDR 7 million. We are still seeing what else we can do. Because this conversion is interesting, and “There are a few obstacles, it’s different with new motorbikes,” he said.
