This Saturday afternoon, at the Teatro Circo de Albacete, the gala of the National Association of Friends of the Historical Theaters of Spain (AMIThE) will be held, in which the XXIV National Theater Prize will be awarded ‘Pepe Isbert’ to actor Jaime Blanch and the XVII International Prize for the conservation of theatrical heritage ‘Gregorio Arcos’ at the Cervantes National Theater in Buenos Aires (Argentina). Afterwards, it will be the turn of the gala of the 20th anniversary of the reopening of the Teatro Circo, with the show ‘An Arab night at the Circus Theater: Andalusian music and dance’, by Eduardo Paniagua and his cast.
AMIThE was founded in 1994 for the protection, dissemination and promotion of Spain’s historic theaters. The “Pepe Isbert” is considered the most important theatrical prize awarded by an associative entity in Spain. It has been awarded since 1997 and its list of winners is impressive: José Luis López Vázquez, Tony Leblanc, Concha Velasco, Lina Morgan, Arturo Fernández, Nuria Espert … Last year Antonio Gala won and now Jaime Blanch (Collado Villalba, 1940) for his long and successful career in the world of theater, cinema and television.
In the case of ‘Gregorio Arcos’, dedicated to the conservation of the theatrical heritage, it was born in memory of the patriarch of the cutlery of Albacete and patron of the association, with the aim of recognizing an institutional or personal action to protect the Spanish theatrical heritage. Now it is delivered to the Cervantes Theater in Buenos Aires, on the occasion of its centenary (it was inaugurated in 1921) and for its extraordinary conservation and beauty. He is also related to Spain, as he was raised by the actress María Guerrero and her husband Don Fernando Díaz de Mendoza (Count of Balazote).
