Monterrey, October 23,. The 8th version of the Montería Reading Fair, Un Río de Libros, ended in the best way. Monterians and visitors gathered to attend en masse the closing event, which had the journalist, writer and television presenter, Jaime Bayly, as a special guest.
During the talk, which took place at the El Sol Events Center, the Peruvian told the public details of his most recent novel ‘Los Genios’, a work in which he presents an analysis of the remembered incident between the writers Mario Vargas Llosa and Gabriel García Márquez, after the ‘punch’ that the former gave the Colombian Nobel Prize in Literature.
Bayly captured the attention of all attendees, thanks to the eloquence and charisma with which he shared his insights about the event that marked the end of more than ten years of friendship between Vargas Llosa and García Márquez.
Likewise, the presenter said he was happy with the invitation from the Mayor’s Office of Montería for the closing of Un Río de Libros, highlighting that the event exceeded his expectations by concentrating more than 900 people in the same place.
“I especially want to thank the mayor of Montería, my friend Carlos Ordosgoitia, and his wife, the social manager Antonella Vega, this event exceeded my expectations, I had a great time. Many people accompanied us, I hope to return soon. I congratulate all those who make this Reading Fair so beautiful, so welcoming, here in Montería,” he expressed.
In turn, the social manager Antonella Vega, specified that the success that surrounded the closing event was also the common denominator in the other conferences, talks and workshops that were scheduled for the Montería Reading Fair.
“A River of Books in its 8th version was magnificent. We have 67 events and we invited more than 80, the most important thing is that everyone experienced different events, for different audiences, where they were able to learn about the writers’ own voice, all the anecdotes and knowledge that nourish us. Montería is a city that breathes literature”,
Massive attendance
The space set up for the presentation of the Peruvian journalist and writer was packed with attendees, who remained enthusiastic during the talk, the question and answer period, and the book signing offered by Bayly.
Mauricio Burgos was one of those attending the event, and took the opportunity to thank the Mayor’s Office of Montería for generating this type of spaces, which promote the exchange of knowledge, culture and passion for the world of letters.
“I want to say that I was fascinated by Jaime Bayly’s talk, on the occasion of his novel ‘Los Genios’. I consider that his coming to Montería raises the level of the Un Río de Libros fair, and makes it possible for all the inhabitants of the city and the department to interact with him about the writing process. Spaces like these are necessary to be able to build a city,” he said.
Likewise, Carlos Moreno, a follower of the renowned presenter, said that “for us in Montería it is very gratifying to see how the Reading Fair is enriched with characters of this type.”
