Jailer, directed by Nelson Dilip Kumar, was the last Rajinikanth film to get him a big hit. The film showed the efforts of a father to save his son who was kidnapped by villains. Rajini’s character in Jailer also had a grandson.
Nelson says that many people advised him not to give Rajinikanth a role that shows his age. But Nelson said that he was determined to do it and was ready to take the blame if he failed. He was speaking in an interview given to Film Companion.
‘Many people told me not to give him a costume that shows his age. He also told me to do what he had already done. I was confident about that, but also lacking in confidence. If that attempt fails, let it be on me. If it didn’t work, he was ready to take the blame,’ said Nelson.
The jailer was released on August 10. Vinayakan is the villain in the film. The cameo roles of Mohanlal, Shiv Kajkumar and Jackie Shroff also attracted attention. Ramya Krishna, Sunil Yogi Babu, Tamannaah, Mirna and others also acted. Jailer had collected more than 600 crores from the theater.
