Jail sentences and TBS for teens who fatally stabbed Tim (15) in Middelburg | inland

Two underage brothers received prison sentences and TBS (juvenile) for the fatal stabbing of 15-year-old Tim in Middelburg. The boy was stabbed seventeen times in January this year because of a debt of 50 euros. He died a few days later.

The older brother, a seventeen-year-old boy, was sentenced to two years in prison and a TBS. His 16-year-old brother has to go to prison for one year and was sentenced to juvenile detention. This is the maximum penalty in juvenile justice.

According to the Middelburg court, the 17-year-old had been working on his plan to kill Tim for two months. This can be seen, among other things, from the WhatsApp messages that the brothers exchanged. The older brother had a fight with Tim over a debt of 50 euros.

The Public Prosecutor (OM) had requested a twelve-year prison sentence against the most senior suspect. The justice deemed the stabbing so serious that adult criminal law had to be enforced. The court also believes that he should be tried as an adult because the judge wants him to receive “ordinary” TBS. The older brother is sentenced to two years in prison because of his age and because the court wants him to start TBS as soon as possible.

On January 9 of this year, Tim was supposed to play with one of the brothers. On the Meanderlaan in Middelburg, the younger brother stabs him. Tim, seriously injured, dies in hospital a few days later. The brothers initially went into hiding, but reported to the police within days of the stabbing.

The brothers also have to pay compensation to Tim’s family.
