Jail for rapper Kafka (29) after ‘stupid tweet’ Inland

29-year-old Bouke van de V., who uses the stage name Convex Kafka, posted a message on Twitter on July 6, 2021 shortly after the attack on journalist Peter R. de Vries. “Can’t Taghi & Co go after Hugo or Mark instead of Peter R. de Vries?” he tweeted. With ‘Hugo and Mark’ he referred to Minister Hugo de Jonge and Prime Minister Mark Rutte. That is incitement to commit violence against authorities, the judge ruled.

Conspiracy theorist Max van den B. stood Tuesday evening with a burning torch at Sigrid Kaag’s house. The event caused many shocked reactions.

It was a misplaced joke, said the rapper who moved to Spain, who followed the case via a video link. “It was never my intention to incite. It was a stupid tweet and I have to see the consequences of that.” The public prosecutor thought this text went too far. “Things like this are the order of the day.” She referred, among other things, to the man who stood threateningly with a torch in front of Minister Sigrid Kaag this week. “It only takes one person to pick this up and turn to violence.” The officer asked for a prison sentence of eight weeks, half of which was suspended.

The judge spoke of a time when there is polarization. “It’s not that everything can be said.” Inciting violence against ministers threatens the democratic constitutional state. “Politicians are systematically the victims of threats and incitement.” She felt a prison sentence was in order, also to prevent others from doing the same.

Van de V. has previously been convicted of libel. According to the officer, he was convicted in 2018 for a threatening tweet against politician Thierry Baudet.
