The important away win was possible for more than three quarters, then Würzburg hit five more threes (eleven in total) for the score of 86:73 (40:39) and Jahn has yet to make any free throws (poor 17 out of 39).
Actually, last Sunday there were already some pleasant discoveries in Jahn’s team: point guards Nico Hirtl also scored 17 points in 26 minutes (effectiveness 19). Vale Bock (eight rebounds in 18 minutes) had career highs and eventually had them Alan de Vries he never scored 29 points in the NBBL (effectiveness 17), but none of that really helped the Jahnlers win. In the end, unfortunately, the shooting odds fell short of the home side from all distances and bigger Würzburg side rebounded significantly better.
For long stretches Monaco’s attack remained uninspired, too much dribbling, too much improvisation. And with 86 counterpoints (46 after halftime), that’s hardly even a successful overall defense.
For example, the Jahnlinge had to accept a tough 0:14 in the last quarter, which not only cost this game, but also the direct confrontation (which could one day be important for the playoffs).
“We don’t need to talk about the playoffs at the moment,” explains coach Armin Sperber very matter-of-factly: “Usually there’s not much to gain against Ulm at home next Saturday. And then it’s against three tough competitors who can beat each other and above all us at any moment. We play for a good position in the relegation round!”
