Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has announced plans for the company’s Halewood plant in the UK to go fully electric and that its next-generation mid-size SUV architecture – the Electrified Modular Architecture (EMA) – will henceforth be 100% electric.

At an informative event at the JLR center in Gaydon, CEO Adrian Mardel reaffirmed to media representatives from around the world his commitment to the implementation of the “Reimagine” strategy, after which JLR will be transformed into an electrified modern luxury car manufacturer by 2030 and will take a step closer to its financial goals – by the financial year 2025 achieve positive net cash flow and deliver double-digit EBIT (earnings before interest and taxes) by 2026.

Investments in the next generation of electric cars
Announcing its plan to electrify next-generation models, JLR has confirmed that it will start taking orders for the all-electric Range Rover this year. The first mid-size SUV of the next generation will be a fully electric model of the Range Rover family. It will be launched in 2025 and will be manufactured at JLR’s Halewood plant on Merseyside.
Although the move towards electrification is accelerating in many global markets and the EMA platform will now be electric-only, JLR will also retain its Modular Longitudinal Architecture (MLA). The Range Rover and Range Rover Sport are built on it, and it takes advantage of both internal combustion engine and hybrid and battery electric technologies. This gives JLR uncompromising flexibility and the ability to adapt its model range to different global markets depending on the pace at which it moves towards its net-zero carbon targets.
Four unique brands
The next step in the implementation of the “Reimagine” strategy is the so-called “House of Brands” approach, with which JLR wants to strengthen the unique character of its brands – “Range Rover”, “Defender”, “Discovery” and “Jaguar” and to realize the vision of the company faster , which creates the most desirable modern luxury cars for the most demanding customers.

Investing in UK industry
In addition to the news that the Halewood factory in Merseyside will become an all-electric production facility and that the architecture of the next-generation mid-range SUV EMA will be electric-only, JLR has revealed that the Engine Manufacturing Center in Wolverhampton is also looking forward to an electric tomorrow. The plant where JLR currently manufactures its Ingenium internal combustion engines will in the future produce next-generation machine electric drive systems and battery packs. Therefore, this factory will also be renamed the Electric Drive Production Center.
Finally, JLR has confirmed that the historic Castlebromwich plant on the outskirts of Birmingham, whose stamping machines press body panels, will be expanded and will play a key role in the company’s electric future – creating bodies for the next generation of electric cars. JLR is also considering opportunities to develop production in Castlebromwich in other areas as well.
