Jagiellonia Białystok wins against Korona Kielce and advances to the runner-up position

After winning against the Moldovan Petrocub, Jagiellonia Białystok played a match in the 13th round of the Ekstraklasa against Korona Kielce on Sunday (October 27) and won 3-1 (1-0).

The Polish champions extended their unbeaten streak in the top league to six games and took the second place in the table, winning against Korona on Sunday.

But the guests had the initiative until they lost the first goal. It is true that in the 3rd minute Jesus Imaz made little mistake by hitting from a dozen or so meters from the first ball, but later – on the other side of the field – Wiktor Długosz found himself in a good situation, but he failed to receive the ball in the penalty area, and Mariusz Fornalczyk’s shot was saved by Sławomir Abramovich.

Jagiellonia Białystok took the lead very quickly, already in the 10th minute. Returning to the first team after injury Nene scored a goal. With a lot of luck, because the ball changed direction after a ricochet from Kielce defender Pau Resta. Imaz passed from the right side, Kristoffer Hansen missed the ball in the penalty area, but the Portuguese hit it and gave the hosts the lead.

A few minutes later, Adrian Dalmau scored in Jagiellonia’s goal, but referee Piotr Lasyk disallowed the goal because the visiting player was offside. The guests tried shots from distance; in this half, Abramowicz saved shots by Miłosz Trojak, Dominick Zator, Dalmau and Pedro Nuno.

Jagiellonia had an excellent opportunity to increase the score in the 28th minute. However, Imaz’s shot from several meters was saved by Xavier Dziekoński. Just before the break, Imaz also scored, but again he missed the target.

Korona scores after the break

The beginning of the second half started brilliantly for the players from Kielce. In the 49th minute, Dalmau finished he headed a cross into the penalty area and, unattended, scored into Jagiellonia’s goal.

The yellow and red team took the lead again immediately after the game was resumed. Dieguez played the ball from his own half towards Korona’s goal, and Imaz defeated Dziekoński in a one-on-one situation and gave the Białystok team a 2-1 lead. Korona did not give up fighting for at least a draw. In the 56th minute, Fornalczyk managed to beat a total of three Jagiellonia players, but he shot very wide from outside the penalty area.

The third goal was scored by Churlinov in the 67th minute and set the match result at 3:1. After the hosts’ free kick, Korona’s defenders kicked the ball into their own penalty area, but Darko Churlinov made a beautiful aerial shot and gave the visiting team’s goalkeeper no chance.

Jagiellonia will play the next match on Wednesday. It will be an away match against Chojniczanka Chojnice in the Polish Cup. Report on Polish Radio Białystok and on our YouTube channel.

Jaga plays every few days

For the Białystok team, Sunday’s match was the 21st match this season.

Since the previous league round, the Białystok team is currently playing matches every 3-4 days. After Sunday’s match with Korona, on Wednesday they will have a match with Chojniczanka in Chojnice in the 1/16 finals of the Polish Cup, then a league match with Górnik in Zabrze, followed by a home match against Molde in the third league round of the LK, and three days later a league match in Białystok – with Raków Częstochowa.

This is a new situation for us (…), we are trying to react, manage, and choose step by step the most optimal solutions when it comes to team management, match management, logistics, the regeneration process and the organization of it all. There are a lot of questions every day and we have to find answers to them and how to best prepare the team for each individual match – admitted Adrian Siemieniec.

  1. Świetny artykuł, naprawdę dobrze opisuje ekscytację meczu! Mam małe pytanie: czy drużyna Korony miała jakiś szczególny plan na drugi mecz w tym sezonie? Wygląda na to, że choć szybko strzelili bramkę po przerwie, nie dali rady się utrzymać. Ciekawi mnie też, jak wygląda kondycja zespołu Jagiellonii w kontekście nadchodzących meczów, biorąc pod uwagę ich częsty terminarz. Doceniam wszelkie szczegóły!
