This morning the 96th Jagersplasloop was run. The gods (Zeus of the sport and Helios of the sun) were kind to the runners. Yet it was an edition with a small thundercloud.
Where this small-scale running event on the green paths of the Jagersveld is usually run three times a year by about a hundred sports enthusiasts, Van Zaanstad had to put the brakes on this year.
That was because a lady with a dog had complained to edition 95. She found the two hours that are run three times a year in groups unbearable and the run should be cancelled. Friday a week ago, the municipality brought the news to the organizer of AV-Zaanland. It was then too late to apply for a permit, and a preventive charge of 3000 euros was imposed. If more than 75 runners appeared at the start, that was the penalty that had to be paid.
The message was passed on to the runners with their buttocks squeezed together. As a result, only 48 athletes showed up today. Plus three pieces of enforcement to count the heads.
From now on, AV Zaanland will have to apply for a permit each time.
