– Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong visited the Samsung Research Center in Umyeon-dong, Seocho-gu, Seoul on the 6th. Here, Vice Chairman Lee held a meeting of the president’s team in the set (finished product) division and checked the status of research and development of 6th generation (6G) communication technology and artificial intelligence (AI).

– The meeting was attended by Kim Hyun-seok, head of consumer electronics (CE), Ko Dong-jin, head of IT and mobile (IM), Choi Yun-ho, head of management support department, and Sebastian Seung, head of Samsung Research Research Institute.

Vice-Chairman Lee received reports on the progress of research on next-generation communication technology, the status of securing technology for servers, and application of AI technology to products. “Securing future technology is a matter of survival,” he said. “Let’s read change and preoccupy the future.” He added, “Let’s focus solely on enhancing the value of the company and contributing to the society.”

Samsung Research is an outpost to study the future technology of Samsung Electronics. It has a global AI center, a next-generation communication research center, and a software innovation center. Director Seung is a Ph.D. in physics at Harvard University, and was a professor at Princeton University’s Brain Science Research Institute and the Department of Computer Engineering.

Currently, Samsung Research is conducting research on the core technologies of smartphones, TVs, home appliances, and 6G communication incorporating AI. In the industry, it is expected that 6G will be commercialized in 2028 and full-scale service will be available in 2030.

On the 4th, Vice Chairman Lee attended a ceremony for bringing in foundry (consigned semiconductor production) facilities at the Pyeongtaek plant in Gyeonggi-do. On the 5th, the network equipment production line was inspected at the Suwon plant in Gyeonggi-do. Subsequently, the Global Technology Center (GTC) hosted a production technology innovation conference.
