Jacques Tati’s film “Mr. Ilo’s Holidays” will be screened

On September 22 at 5:00 p.m., the third film lecture dedicated to Valentina Freimane will be held in the chamber hall of the Latvian Society of Liepāja. Let’s watch Jacques Tati’s film “Holidays of Mr. Ilo” (1953) on the screen.
The action takes place in a small boarding-type hotel on the seashore, which still exists today. There is almost no dialogue in the film, if anyone speaks, it disappears in the loud background and background noises. Mr. Ilo becomes a kind of anti-hero who cannot be understood, but for whom and at whom one wants to smile.
Mr. Ilo’s humor influenced by circus traditions is unforced, the pedantically staged scenes look easy – like a game that has no end, only a break. Therefore, there is no drama that the holidays and summer pass, the beach becomes empty and everyone, including the girl with the light braids, leaves…
There are movies that you love to watch over and over again. And it’s so nice to watch movies together.
The film lecture is held for the exhibition “Witness of the Century”. Meeting with Valentine Freimani” and was created in cooperation with the French Institute in Latvia and the Cēsis Art Festival.
