Jacksonville Jaguars | Head coach Urban Meyer fired

The Jacksonville Jaguars fired head coach Urban Meyer late Wednesday, hours after former kicker Josh Lambo accused Meyer of kicking him during practice in August.

The move was also made after new quarterback Trevor Lawrence met owner Shad Khan on his yacht. Lawrence then told media the team needed “less drama.”

Offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell will be the interim coach for the last four games. Jacksonville has lost its last five games, making it the league’s longest active losing streak. The Jags have also lost nine straight to opponents in the South American Division.

A fiasco

However, Meyer’s arrival seemed like a good idea at the start. A natural association between an organization in search of identity and a head coach who had won two championships in the NCAA just outside town seeking a coach.

Urban Meyer’s name had been around for quite some time when there was an opening for a head coach position in the NFL. However, the Jacksonville Jaguars were the perfect organization for him, especially since they had the first pick in the draft, which would allow them to get their hands on their franchise quarterback, Trevor Lawrence.

Error. There was sand in the gear from the start, and things never got better in Jacksonville.

Ahead of Sunday’s Jaguars game, rumors, which were confirmed by several American media outlets, were of an intense spat between Meyer and wide receiver Marvin Jones Jr., a nine-season veteran who has always enjoyed a good reputation in the NFL.

Meyer has also been accused of calling some of his assistant coaches “losers”.
