Jacksonville Jaguars assistant strength coach Kevin Maxen has revealed that he is gay. He is celebrated on Instagram – but also insulted.
“I don’t want to feel like I have to think about it anymore,” the American football coach told the website Outsports on Thursday evening (local time) to his step to the public. According to the AP news agency and the portal, Kevin Maxen is the first coach in a major US professional league for men to have made his homosexuality public.
Most of his followers celebrate him on Instagram. Others take it sober, like a user who writes: «Why are you all congratulating him? So he likes men, nice. No big deal.” Another user, on the other hand, says: “You should be thrown out of the team.” Another user even insulted Maxen as a “soulless, disgusting loser”.
Maxen said he no longer wanted to feel like he had to think about it or lie. He hopes to live openly and without fear.
While others at the Jacksonville Jaguars introduced their family, he felt the need to keep quiet about his friend. Other coaches, on the other hand, spoke about their partnership. “I felt guilty that I couldn’t do the same thing because I let myself down,” Maxen said.
