The 26-year-old was born in Canada but, thanks to his German passport, does not have a quota place
The EHC Freiburg team for the coming season in the second German ice hockey league continues to take shape. With 26-year-old Jackson Cressey, the wolves were able to present another new signing on Monday (06/27/2022).
The striker was born in Canada, but now has a German passport and is therefore not included in the import player contingent. The right-wing shooter achieved his first major successes with the college championship in the 2017/18 season at the renowned Princeton University.
He then went to Europe, where he joined Tyringe SoSS in the second Swedish division in the 2020/21 season. At that time he had scored 18 points in 20 games for the Swedes and was already considered quite dangerous.
First stops in North America and Europe
Cressey’s last stop before his move to Breisgau was with the Reading Royals in the North American ECHL, where he was able to score 12 goals and 14 assists in 60 main round games.
EHC sports director Peter Salmik sees Cressey as a great opportunity to sign an international talent and still be able to save one of the coveted contingent places for international players. Among other things, he hopes that the 26-year-old will further increase the competitive pressure in the storm and thus push the entire team forward.
Head coach Robert Hoffman sees Cressey as a newly minted pro player with the ability to read the game well and anticipate certain situations. Hoffmann also praises his physical strength and his willingness to go where it hurts in the game.
