Jack Astro: from not using Spotify to 100,000 followers

Christian Jacques shows signing his first music contract with Sony Denmark

Spotify has been the platform that has broken the schemes for this 23-year-old. Christian Jacques (Jack Astro) has managed to add more than 200,000 visits to his first song XO Tour Llif3 and go from 0 to more than 100,000 monthly listeners in just 10 days since its launch, on February 26, 2021.

After many hours of learning and dedication, this Malaga producer decided to build a track that has managed to expand his professional presence to more than 100 countries. «It was all unexpected, I was trained at the Musiluz academy and when I finished, I continued studying on my own until finally this came out. We sent it, liked it and it’s working, ”describes Jack Astro.

His passion for music began at a very young age, he has always been linked to the electronic genre and managed to open a small gap in the province with his performances as a DJ in various clubs and events. “When I saw videos of DJs in places like Tomorrowland or Ultra Music Festival, I would say: I don’t want to live the experience from the audience but from the other side, that is, the professional. I wanted to make thousands of people dance and enjoy my own music », he highlights.

First topic

This collaboration with the Alicante Dj / Producer Moha, the German Niklas Dee and the American vocalist Meqq after signing with Sony Denmark-Disco: Wax – One Seven is a new version of the recent classic by rapper Lil Uzi Vert, Xo Tour Llif3. In it, they have completely changed genre, from modern hip hop to electronic music, trying to create a more energetic and danceable atmosphere. “Given the situation we have today, we wanted to do something that was not focused exclusively on the festival but so that anyone who is in the car, in a meeting with friends or in the gym can listen to it quietly,” confesses Jack Astro.

The idea of covering this piece of music arises from the friendship that both Moha and Jack Astro have and a taste for electronic music and American hip hop. “We both liked the original version of Lil Uzi Vert but we did a song adapted to our current musical style,” he describes. The piece was created in October 2020 and signed in December 2020, but inspiration has not wavered during these months of pandemic, but rather has driven them.

The success

The fact that he did not even have an account created on Spotify to receive recommendations from this platform to improve his profile and create more content has been a reality check for Jack Astro. «I didn’t know how to handle it and from one week to the next I received emails recommending that once I reached a number of followers I should update my account and upload more content. It took me by surprise and made me think that what was happening was something more serious, “he describes.

It was just at that moment when he got to work, taking photo shoots and providing quality content that continued to open doors for him as had happened a few weeks ago. «I already have a couple of international collaborations with producers from England and Germany. There will be a couple of songs coming up shortly, ”says Jack Astro.

His goal is to continue on the path he is going and continue to be infected by his source of inspiration, Skrillex, one of the most popular EDM producers, since “thanks to him” his feeling towards music is what it is today.

On the other hand, it encourages all those who wish to produce a new song or cover it to do so. “The opportunities to be victorious are there. I did not expect it at all, but it is real. I would advise them to keep going and not give up even when they run into obstacles, that’s what it’s all about, ”concludes Jack Astro.

To success for electronics in the midst of a global pandemic

The successful project stems from the friendship that Jack Astro and Moha have and their passion for electronic music. When they started shaping the new version of the Lil Uzi Vert piece, it wasn’t hard for them to focus and let go. The ideas were clear to them, they wanted to adapt it to a style with which they felt comfortable. The result, a cucumber that is helping both of them to open a hole in the world of music
